Our Paths...
You make known to me the path of life; you fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. - Psalm 16:11
"Remember: Always walk in the light. If you feel like you're not walking in it, go find it. Love the light." - Roberta Flack
A couple of weekends ago, I had the blessed opportunity to be a participant and a presenter at our church's first women's retreat in over 20 years. I think, as busy momma's, our souls oftentimes crave "retreating" from the everyday chaos of our busy lives. As I drove the long, winding road to the Lakeview Camp & Retreat Center, I paused and thanked God that over 40 women had chosen to spend a weekend tending to their souls. Then, I said a TX-sized prayer for all the men we left behind! As long as everyone was upright and conscious when we made our way back home, all would be fine...right?! I do believe I could write a bestselling novel on the joys of escaping one's normal routine for a weekend. One chapter would focus on how coffee and chocolate do change everything! However, one particular element of this retreat left me breathless. I don't want to forget our walks.
When it was time for our group to eat, we left our lodge and walked a winding road to the dining hall. As we walked, one could hear beautiful sounds of laughter, complete enjoyment of one another's company and the strong, united voice of the FUMC-Grapevine women. These were the voices of women who have simply done "life" alongside one another for quite some time. In the sixteen years I have been a member of this congregation, some of these women have endured tragic loss, unexpected medical diagnoses and overwhelming hardships. By God's grace and the strength we have provided one another along the way, this beautiful group of women has thrived. Thank you, Jesus.
On the second day of our weekend, the weather changed. Some continued to walk the familiar path. We huddled closer as the driving wind whipped around from the north. Praise God for those times in our lives when we draw closer to those around us and lean in closer to Him. He is our refuge in the storm. As the rain began to fall, some desired to be carried. The road ahead was too difficult. Praise God for those in our group who jumped in their cars and shuttled the others up the hill. In some of my most difficult seasons of life, when I needed to be carried, these women were there. The blessings showered upon my soul will be etched on my heart forever.
Every day of our lives, we make choices about the paths we travel and the people who travel alongside us. Who is on the road with you? Are you walking along a path with other faithful followers of Christ? Are you trusting Him to carry you when life's burdens seem too heavy to manage on your own? Today, celebrate the path God has chosen for you. Thank Him for every provision along your journey. Honor Him as you follow the glorious path alongside beautiful souls in His kingdom. Amen.
